As I look at the state of campaigning for our governments offices (federal, state & local), I noticed one common theme. It seems that just about everyone who is running for office is telling me either they will give me something or that their opponent(s) will take something away. Since this is a common campaign tactic I have to assume it works.

I wonder how many Americans assume that money from the government isn’t taken from their neighbors. I wonder how many Americans think the government simply produces money to give away rather than confiscating it from the productive citizens to use for their own political influence. I wonder how many Americans decide who to vote for based on how much money, either in cash or pork, the candidate promises to give them.
